Requested by a customer:

- Show the configurable product parents in the LIVE ‘category’ instead of Out Of Stock if they have a simple with remaining inventory.

My addition to this:

- Make it possible to show / hide children items and just work with parent products - children will automatically be listed if this mode is active and the parent is enabled, and will automatically take their parents listing settings / listing themes. This should make it much easier to work with configurable products.
